Condensed matter physics
  1. Statistical Physics (Pt 2). E.M. Lifshitz and L. P. Pitaevskii. Butterworth-Heinemann (1980). Book 9 of the Landau Course of Theoretical Physics. Geared toward Green’s functions, superfluidity and superconductivity. Transport is left to another volume entirely. Russian style, and theoretically oriented, i.e., concise and dense.
  2. Solid state physics. Neil W. Ashcroft and Mermin, Brooks/Cole 1976. A timeless classic on the subject, with a broad range of topics thoughtfully explained. A little dated, and some more recent topics are not covered.
  3. The quantum Hall effect. Richard E. PrangeSteven M. Girvin (eds.), Springer-Verlag 1990.
